REMINDER THAT RUSH DAYS ARE HERE!

We are in the midst of our busiest time at Taylor Studios for the graduate portrait season! If you are unable to book an appointment, but would still like to guarantee yourself a spot in the yearbook and on your class composite you can book with us on one of our rush days. This year the rush days are Wednesday March 31st and Thursday April 1st and only March 31st at studio #3 on campus.

How the rush days work:

You will come in to the studio that you have booked at on the rush day and have a quick two to three shots taken. This will guarantee you a spot in the yearbook and on your class composite. Then you will come back at a later date and have the rest of your grad photo session completed for your personal selection.

What you have to do:

First, register yourself online at www.queensgradphotos.ca

Second, book yourself into one of the time slots on the rush days. At this time you must choose whether you want a "Basic" or a "Standard" package.

Third, you can also at this time book yourself your second session at a later date in time, for your personal choices.

If you are unable to book a spot on the rush days because they are full give us a call at the studio 613-541-1098 and we will book you in. However, make sure that you are registered online first!

Favourite Props: The Skeleton!

A favourite prop for a lot of grads, especially grads of Life Sciences and Masters of Occupational Therapy, is the skeleton! The skeleton is always creeping around the studio somewhere and is more than happy to join grads in their "Standard" portrait session for a few shots. The skeleton is definitely one of the favourite props here at the studio... and he knows it. He is kind of a celebrity around here!

Grads Of The Day: Yoyo and Christopher!

Today is yet again another two way tie for "Grad of the Day!" between Yoyo and Christopher!

Yoyo brought in her Olympic mittens and incorporated them into the extra shots of her "Standard" graduate portrait sitting. Her mitten shots turned out to be both cute and patriotic!

Christopher wore a Queen's tam and scarf and got a little sassy with one of the extra shots in his "Standard" portrait sitting! Check out that wink!

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Grad Of The Day: Catherine!

Catherine brought in a Queen's sweatshirt to her "Standard" graduate portrait sitting and wore it with pride! The red looks great on the blue background and her school spirit jumps right out of the picture!

Grad Of The Day: Paolo!

Paolo brought in a sword to his "Standard" graduate portrait session to show his passion for martial arts. Through a variety of poses he was able to show off both his technique and the beautiful craftsmanship of the sword.

Working With Props: The Globe

Where in the world is Ethan?! This Development Studies major shows us how to have fun with a globe during his "Standard" grad portrait session. Sunglasses are a must because this grads future is looking bright!

Grad Of The Day: Emily!

Emily is our grad of the day today and she brought some props into her "Standard" sitting that represent both of her majors, Global Development Studies and Sociology. In addition she also brought her laptop which is covered in stickers that represent various causes, social issues and forms of activism that she has participated in and strongly supports. These props gave the extra shots of her sitting a personal touch and helped her inner philanthropist shine through.

Grad Of The Day: Catherine!

Catherine was on her way to her commerce formal this weekend and not only had her grad photos taken but also got some wonderful shots of her in her formal dress! How perfect that the dress matched the green of the Queen's commerce hood! Her "Standard" package allowed this Cinderella some glamour shots of her in her gown before the ball.

Grad Of The Day: Fabian!

Today our grad of the day is Fabian! He brought in his cello to his "Standard" graduate portrait sitting and got some really great shots with it. What a beautiful instrument!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Yesterday for St. Patrick's Day we had some festive props in the studio and these grads let their inner leprechaun out!

Grad Of The Day: Ian!

Ian is our grad of the day today! If wearing the Queen's flag as a cape and using our favourite accessory, the viking helmet, isn't enough to make you grad of the day then I don't know what is! This commerce grad has got a lot of moxie and will definitely go far!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Grad Of The Day: James!

James is an engineer with a soft side. He is our grad of the day because he showed us how a real man poses with flowers. This graduate is gazing longingly into his future and remembering to stop and smell the roses along the way.

Grads With Cameras!

Sally and Ulrica are two grads and friends who both have a passion for their hobby photography! For both of their "Standard" sittings they brought in their cameras to use in some of their grad shots. Ulrica brought her SLR camera and Sally brought in two Polaroid cameras. Sally switched roles with her photographer towards the end of her shoot and managed to capture her photographer on film!

Grad Of The Day: Lisah!

The grad of the day today is Lisah! Her mom made her a grad robe and a Bachelor of Arts hood for her favourite stuffed animal dog! How cute is that? Now that is one smart pup!

Love is in the air...

The snow is melting, the days are getting longer and warmer and this spring love is in the air at Taylor Studios!

Why not book a "House Sitting" with us and have a portrait session with you and your sweet heart? How romantic!

Grads Of The Day: Anna and Ian!

We have had so many exciting grads lately that it is getting harder and harder to choose the "Grad Of The Day". Today there is a two way tie for the title between Anna and Ian!

Anna brought some retro shades and a favourite text book to her grad sitting to show us just how cool feminism is!

Ian donned a Queen's scarf and a viking helmet for a few shots of his sitting. Personally, I think nothing says Queen's graduate more than a viking helmet!

Both of these grads used props to make the extra shots of their "Standard" sittings more fun and interesting and it was too tough to choose between them for "Grad Of The Day".

Friday, March 12, 2010

Grad Of The Day: Dana!

Today's grad of the day is Dana! She is graduating with a Bachelor of Music and decided to bring her flute to her "Standard" grad portrait session.

Being a music student Dana's flute is integral to her success in her program. There is also a wonderful connection that can be seen between a person and their instrument. Choosing to incorporate an item with sentimental value, that also represents both her scholastic accomplishment and her personal passion really shows through in Dana's pictures.

Grad Of The Day: Cassondra!

Today's grad of the day is Cassondra! She came to her "Standard" sitting with a great attitude, big smile and ready to have fun with her photos! After getting some great shots with the standard props that we use here she wanted to take some fun shots with the feather boa and some with the Queen's props. The whole shoot was a lot of fun and the end result was a wide selection of photos to choose from ranging from classic graduate portraits to some whimsical and more playful shots!

Feel free to use fun props to make your standard sitting more exciting and fun!

Standard Package? Why Not Bring Props!

If you have booked a "Standard" grad portrait session and have some props that you would like to bring in to use for a few shots please feel free. With the "Standard" package you have the option to have some extra shots at the end that can be more casual and fun.

Props that pertain to your program, Queen's memorabilia and items that have sentimental value are a great idea and they can be incorporated into a few of your shots adding a personal touch to your photos. Above are examples of props that some grads have used.

Yearbook Deadline Extended!!!

Hello Graduates!

Just a reminder that the deadline to have your grad photo appear in the yearbook is fast approaching! The deadline this year has just been extended and is now:

April 10th, 2010

Book your graduate portrait session before this deadline to ensure that you will make it into the yearbook. There are still spots available so make sure you book early!

If you have already had your portrait session you must go online to view your images and select your "Tricolour Choice". This will be the image that will appear in the yearbook.

Style Tips For Your Graduate Portrait Session:

For Girls: Collared Shirt vs Shirt Without Collar?

When choosing whether to wear a collared dress shirt or a non-collared shirt here are some things to consider:

The collared dress shirt look is a little more classic and formal. Make sure your shirt is neatly pressed and a neutral colour, preferably white or black. If you require a dress shirt we have some available at the studio.

The non-collared dress shirt is a more contemporary look. It opens up the neck line a little and is another option to consider when planning your outfit for your portrait session. If you prefer the non-collared shirt look keep in mind to not wear anything too low cut and make sure that the shirt is not transparent, as it will be partially visible. This look is also great if you wish to wear a necklace. The same as the collared shirt mentioned above make sure you pick a neutral colour, preferably black or white.

For Guys: Freshly Pressed Shirt and Tie

Make sure that if you are bringing your own shirt and tie that they are neat and that your shirt is freshly pressed. If you require a white collared shirt and a tie we have some on hand here at the studio for you to wear.
